ABOUT SONA BABAJANYAN
Sona Babajanyan is an Armenian-Australian artist, illustrator, and author based in Brisbane. Born in Armenia, studied in Moscow and the US – she worked for years as a literary translator, editor, and graphic designer, and that restlessness never quite went away.
Her work blends subtle humour, poetry, and a touch of the surreal. Moving freely between traditional and digital media, colour and black and white, she is always looking for new forms of expression.
She has illustrated numerous books for children and adults – among them the bestselling Goodnight Possum by Coral Vass (Koala Books/Scholastic). In 2023, she made her debut as an author-illustrator with Moush's Strange Journey, a fantasy tale for children, published in Armenian (Newmag).
Her works are held in private collections in Australia, Europe, Russia, and the United States.
